is social media a fad or the biggest shift since the Industrial Revolution?

I do not think social media is just a fad. As time goes on and we become more technologically social media is just going to become more popular and used by more people. It is already becoming more advanced because now things such as Skype are coming out where you don’t even have to type your messages, you can do a video call and communicate with people anywhere in the world and it’s as if your talking face to face, and if you call them and they are not at their computer, you can leave a voicemail just the same as you would on a phone. I think social media will always be around now but I do not think it will be exactly the same. It will always be changing. As new things come out such as face book, some of the older social media sites will fade away and eventually never be used anymore such as my space and MSN messaging.

I think social media a huge shift. It has changed the way we do business and communication in general. Employers can now locate potential employees online and have some background information on them before they even meet in person. It has made it much easier to meet new people and find new employment opportunities. It has also made it easier for employers to find employees because of things like “LinkedIn” where people post all of their previous employment information and based on that employers can decide if you would be a good fit for their company or not. Social media has also made international businesses a lot more common. It is now possible for a business to be in many different countries and have many different owners. Each owner will run their business in each of their counties and through things like Skype and Face Book group pages it is possible for all of the business owners to communicate at a very low cost. It also makes it easier with the different time zones, you can post something on a group page and everyone will see it when they first log on.

  1. I agree with you Kennethin! The social media that we all know now will eventually change. Everything has a shelf life, and eventually someone will come around, and make what we have now better. It happened to MySpace and eventually it will happen to Facebook. The internet itself is a business, and the model of it will continue to evolve. Speaking of business, I completely agree with the fact that it's helped our generation with communication. Everyone's online now, so the chances of finding the ideal candidate for a position is much more possible. This can only mean good things for our future.
